Name: Natalia Villarejo
From: San Juan, Puerto Rico
Poling for: 6 years, 5 years as an instructor
Natalia, our other fierce and fabulous leader, comes to us all the way from San Juan, Puerto Rico!
Growing up in the performing arts, Natalia has always been a dancer, and works as a successful actress in movies, plays and voice overs. Movement flows naturally through her body. You’ll never find her sitting still, unless she’s meditating…otherwise she is dancing – on the floor, on her pole, on the wall, she doesn’t discriminate, she embraces movement and lets it flow through her.
In 2011, Natalia took her first pole class in Seattle, WA and was instantly seduced by this new dancer partner. Wanting to bring pole to her island, in 2013 Natalia earned her first Pole Fitness Instructor Certification from Fawnia Mondey in Las Vegas, where her and Josephine first met.
Natalia is a true pioneer as she was the first, and for many years, the only Pole Dance Federation approved Pole Dance Certified Instructor in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. She brought an alternative side of pole to the island, one that focused not only on dance and fitness, but on empowering the dancer within. This softer, sensual side of pole quickly gained popularity, allowing her and her partner Julianna to open the first pole studio on the island in her home – Hálito meaning breath.
Over the past couple of years Hálito and pole in Puerto Rico have evolved through Natalia and Julianna’s guidance and nurturing. Natalia encourages growth and development with her students in order to build the supportive community and recently arranged for 7 of them to become certified instructors themselves.
She thrives off of the beauty of dancers around her. “My biggest pole crushes would have to be the girls in my community because I see them grow and I see them go in so many directions and evolve in so many ways…”
Fun Fact: Natalia’s favorite moves include hook spins, forearm stands, and spins to climbs. “I love moves that work with movement.”
“I supplement my pole workouts with a lot of things and like to rest my body as well.” Natalia challenges herself on and off the pole with indoor cycling, weight lifting, running, yoga and AcroYoga! “I work a lot of different techniques that are restorative on the body.”
Outside of the studio, Natalia spends time with her family and her other passion projects. “When I’m not poling, I love to be with my daughter and my boyfriend. I am an actress so I love to have a project I’m always developing.”
“Pole dancing has changed my life and everyday I see lives transforming around me through the art of pole dancing. I am excited to see what the future holds for pole on our beautiful island. It is my honor & pleasure to do what I am passionate about every day.”
