Discovered pole: 2014

I first started pole fitness in 2014 with a couple of my old roommates at a studio in Fort Collins. We heard from some people that it’s a fun workout, so we figured why not give it a try! After my first class, I knew I was hooked and I’ve been poling ever since.

Throughout my time poling, I’ve supplemented pole with other workouts. I love to kickbox and I recently rediscovered my passion for rock climbing. I have always been very active and pole is one of my favorite outlets to be creative and active in my life.

Fun Fact: My favorite pole move is floating butterfly—check it out!

My experience with pole dancing has been nothing short of amazing. Once I discovered the sport, I haven’t been able to stay away. Not only has pole given me a great amount of strength and flexibility but it has also significantly increased my confidence and self esteem.

The pole community is one of my favorite parts of pole—it feels good to just be around the studio. I have met so many wonderful women who encourage growth, love, and support. The instructors continue to help me in my pole journey and my pole ‘sisters’ inspire me to continue growing.

Pole has given me the opportunity to perform multiple times, which has pushed me out of my comfort zone in the best possible ways. I learned that I have a love for the spotlight and performing!

Fun Fact: Time to gush about pole crushes! I love Michelle Shimmey and Maddie Sparkles, the dynamic sister duo from Australia! I was fortunate enough to take a workshop from them when they were in Colorado for Pole Theater. Maddie Sparkles taught us an awesome variation off of brass monkey.

My pole journey has taken me a long way and I hope to continue to advance and be involved with the community as much as possible. My current goal in my pole journey is to get certified and become and instructor.

I love teaching others and seeing people progress so I would be ecstatic to transition that into the pole world. I would also love to compete at some point soon!

Share Your Story Saturday: Natalia Villarejo

Name: Natalia Villarejo
IG: @NatiVillarejo
From: San Juan, Puerto Rico
Poling for: 6 years, 5 years as an instructor

Natalia, our other fierce and fabulous leader, comes to us all the way from San Juan, Puerto Rico!

Growing up in the performing arts, Natalia has always been a dancer, and works as a successful actress in movies, plays and voice overs. Movement flows naturally through her body. You’ll never find her sitting still, unless she’s meditating…otherwise she is dancing – on the floor, on her pole, on the wall, she doesn’t discriminate, she embraces movement and lets it flow through her.

In 2011, Natalia took her first pole class in Seattle, WA and was instantly seduced by  this new dancer partner. Wanting to bring pole to her island, in 2013 Natalia earned her first Pole Fitness Instructor Certification from Fawnia Mondey in Las Vegas, where her and Josephine first met.

Natalia is a true pioneer as she was the first, and for many years, the only Pole Dance Federation approved Pole Dance Certified Instructor in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. She brought an alternative side of pole to the island, one that focused not only on dance and fitness, but on empowering the dancer within. This softer, sensual side of pole quickly gained popularity, allowing her and her partner Julianna to open the first pole studio on the island in her homeHálito meaning breath.

Over the past couple of years Hálito and pole in Puerto Rico have evolved through Natalia and Julianna’s guidance and nurturing. Natalia encourages growth and development with her students in order to build the supportive community and recently arranged for 7 of them to become certified instructors themselves.

She thrives off of the beauty of dancers around her. “My biggest pole crushes would have to be the girls in my community because I see them grow and I see them go in so many directions and evolve in so many ways…”

Fun Fact: Natalia’s favorite moves include hook spins, forearm stands, and spins to climbs. “I love moves that work with movement.”

“I supplement my pole workouts with a lot of things and like to rest my body as well.” Natalia challenges herself on and off the pole with indoor cycling, weight lifting, running, yoga and AcroYoga! “I work a lot of different techniques that are restorative on the body.”

Outside of the studio, Natalia spends time with her family and her other passion projects. “When I’m not poling, I love to be with my daughter and my boyfriend.  I am an actress so I love to have a project I’m always developing.”

“Pole dancing has changed my life and everyday I see lives transforming around me through the art of pole dancing. I am excited to see what the future holds for pole on our beautiful island. It is my honor & pleasure to do what I am passionate about every day.”

Share Your Story Saturday ~ Ms Josephine

Josephine, one of the faces of the Pole Body Fusion team, co-founder and instructor

Name: Josephine Hover, AKA, Ms Josephine
Hometown: Fort Collins, Colorado
Poling: 4.5 years, since 2012

Ms Josephine happens to be a pole idol of mine and I’m so excited to share her story with you!

Josephine began her pole journey after seeing a video starring Jenyne Butterfly and just had to try it for herself. She found a little studio in Fort Collins, booked her first class and “never looked back.”

Being at a momentary standstill after receiving a graduate degree from CSU, Ms Josephine wanted to expand her workout routine to shake things up a bit. “I was looking for something new that challenged me mentally as well as physically, and then I found Pole.”

Josephine also loves practicing yoga, riding her bicycle and snowboarding all over Colorado. “I’ve always been physically active, but pole is what got me in the best shape of my life.”

One of Josephine’s favorite pole moves is the Allegra

Josephine believes in the transformational power of pole. “It wasn’t until I found pole that I started to see my body transform. I was noticeably stronger, leaner, more flexible and coordinated.” Not only has pole enhanced her body physically but she has seen growth mentally and emotionally as well. “I discovered a new, sexier, confident side of myself that I wasn’t sure existed and had to share it with the world.”

Boulder Spirals Workshops – 2016

Fun Fact: Josephine has been to Summer Pole Camp in St Martin twice, most recently in 2015 training with Heidi Coker. Josephine is inspired by Heidi’s strong, sexy style, and trains with her every opportunity she can.

One of Josephine’s Pole aspirations is to compete and with Natalia as her coach, Josephine placed 2nd in her first competition – the Aspirant this past October.

Check out her full routine here – can you spot her favorite move?

And now she is sharing her love of pole with Pole Body Fusion, teaching home polers through online video tutorials, with her pole sister Natalia of course! Josephine loves “to teach, inspire and share the power of pole” and Pole Body Fusion “provides the perfect avenue to do that.”
